It is undeniable that a great number of the names and endeavours of Egyptian pharaohs are known to the general public. It goes without saying that Tutankhamen and Ramses II are two famous examples of this. However, when it comes to the names of women who have had an impact on the history of Egypt, as has undoubtedly been the case, it is a different story. One could even go as far as to say that, apart from Nefertiti and Cleopatra (who was in fact not Egyptian but Macedonian); in general people are unaware of Egyptian women and their achievements.
Reaching back in time to talk about them is also a way of highlighting the presence and importance of women today.
