Curated by J. F. Yvars, professor, art historian and ex-director of the IVAM, the show Julio González. Drawings, Papers and Figures from the IVAM Collection is a selection of some seventy drawings and four sculptures from the museum's collection of over four-hundred pieces. The aim of this exhibition is to capture small details and showcase the delicate drawing of the artist, creating an ensemble allowing us to discover a more authentic Julio González; an artist who sought out and encountered new ways of expressing the disruption and audacity of his times.
On 29 November at 6 pm J. F. Yvars will give a conference entitled Julio González and his Times where he will contextualise the figure of the artist within the convulsive and agitated period he lived in. González, from a family of metalworkers and goldsmiths, became one of the pioneers of modern sculpture in iron, and today his works can be seen in the collections of great museums such as the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, the Museu Nacional d’Art Reina Sofia and the Centre Georges Pompidou.
