The Jesuit Friedhelm Mennekes is a philosopher, political scientist, theologian and expert on issues related to the church and modern art. At the talk "Art and Religion; Father Mennekes at the Church of St Peter in Cologne", the second in a series organized by the Montserrat Museum, Menekes will talk about his experience at the church of St Peter in the German city of Cologne, devastated by bombing during the Second World War.
In this building in 1989, the Jesuit priest created a centre for contemporary art and music with the aim of promoting dialogue between contemporary art and religion. In this talk, Mennekes will speak about his experience as a promoter of artistic events within an ecclesiastical framework and his relationship with artists such as J. L. Byars, E. Chillida, J. Kounellis and J. Beuys.
