Over recent years there have been important therapeutic and diagnostic advances in all fields of medicine – perhaps especially so in gynaecology. Decreases in mortality from breast or cervix cancer can be attributed to improvements in early diagnosis, less invasive and more effective new treatments, better teamwork and multidisciplinary care. The greater attention paid to other aspects has also played its part: the information, advice and support provided to women from adolescence onwards; contraception; pregnancy and birth; sexuality; menopause and post menopause, and oncological procedures.
Ms. Maria Dolores Ojeda, gynaecological doctor.
